COACHING

We are Looking for Great Coaches!

Are you interested in becoming a Head Coach for the 2012 season? We are always looking for great coaches! Anyone who is interested in coaching for the 2012 season needs to contact our Director of Coaches and provide the age group you are interested in.

Interviews and training dates are being planned for the 2012 season. Please check this page for updates.

All coaching positions within HYFL are volunteer-based. It will require a large commitment of time and effort, however, the rewards and experiences are well worth it.

TRAINING

Training can be found on the "Training" page which is in the Menu on the left-hand side of this page under "Coaching."

EXPECTATIONS OF COACHES

  1. Role model all that we teach and emphasize to our players.
  2. Coach players up
  3. Be on time, work hard, coach every play, be honest and be fair.
  4. Be job-oriented, which means we must be willing to spend necessary time to finish each coaching task completely, thoroughly and with a high-level of quality.
  5. Hustle going from place to place on the field (good habit and more reps).
  6. Be experts in our areas of coaching (knowledge and presentation, repetition leads to habit which leads to learning).
  7. Use appropriate language. We need to maintain our poise and focus during times when emotions are high due to a bad call, bounce of the ball, etc. There are right times and actions to address bad calls, etc. (if necessary). Our coaches and players will not beg for a call every time it is a bang-bang play.
  8. Listen when someone (another coach, a player, etc.) is speaking.
  9. Help with gear and equipment.
  10. Take responsibility for our own roles/duties/areas (take ownership, do a great job, be critical of ourselves first and foremost if something did not go well).
  11. Be positive with the players (find that silver lining). If our approach to being demanding is a positive one, we will get the most out of our players.
  12. Be positive among ourselves as coaches. Respect each other's roles and input. Once a final decision is made (even if different than what we had wanted) we need to support that decision not only with the players but also among ourselves (especially outside of the full staff setting). Don't complain/don't blame.
  13. Return all personal messages that pertain to football business.
  14. Our primary goal is to develop our student-athletes as both people and players and to help them achieve their highest-level as a person and a football player. As well, we want our players to have fun participating in football and enjoy their experience in our program. We must find ways to improve player's self-esteem.
  15. Being in this football program needs to be important to everyone involved. It should not be the most important thing(s) in our life, but it should be one of our priorities.
