WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO REGISTER IN HYFA Tackle?
Registration is open to all kids living in Hillsboro High School Boundaries and attending 3rd to 8th grade next Fall.

IS A MEDICAL PHYSICAL REQUIRED TO PLAY?
Yes, you must have a doctor's release to participate. The TVYFL Medical Release Form is the only form we can accept. More information will be available at registration time.

WHEN IS THE REGISTRATION FEE DUE?
All Registration Fees are due prior to receiving equipment. If you have not paid online prior to picking up your equipment, you can also pay onsite when you come to pick-up your equipment.

WHEN DOES PRACTICE BEGIN?
Spartan Camp is usually the first week of August, and Team Practice starts the week after. (Check the calendar for exact date).

WHAT DAYS OF THE WEEK ARE THE GAMES PLAYED?
HYFA games are played on Saturdays.

WHAT TIMES DO THE PRACTICES START AND END?
Practices generally run from 5:00/6:00 PM to 7:30/8:00PM. This will vary depending on the coach's schedule.

HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK IS PRACTICE?
Prior to Labor Day, net practice time is 10 hours per week not counting water breaks. If the weather is hot we will schedule additional water breaks for hydration, which would make a difference of an additional 10 to 15 minutes of overall practice times.
Practice will be net 6 hours per week after school starts, generally 3-4 days per week per your head coach.

WHERE WILL OUR GAMES BE PLAYED?
The games are scheduled throughout the Tualatin Valley with approximately 50% of our games being played at Hare Field.

HOW WILL I CONTACT MY CHILD'S COACH?
The Head Coach will hold a meeting after the first team practice; at that time you can obtain contact information. You will also be connected via our online team software/apps.

DO I HAVE TO BRING MY CHILD TO THE EQUIPMENT ISSUE DAY?
Yes your child must be present so we can fit him, otherwise no equipment will be issued. No parents will be allowed in the equipment issue area, so bring a book or newspaper, as each child will take approximately 15 minutes to fit properly.

WHAT IF WE HAVE A VACATION PLANNED DURING THE SEASON?
If your child is not going to be present during a practice or game please notify your coach. HYFA posts the season calendar after our first Board meeting in January to allow parents visibility in advance.

WHO DO WE PLAY?
3rd - 6th grade will play same age teams from associations based on Hillsboro High School's OSAA Conference and proximity. 7th-8th grade will be matched with same age teams in similar size programs within the TVFYL.

HOW MUCH WILL MY CHILD GET TO PLAY?
There is a 15 play minimum rule which means that all players will play at least 15 plays. The players that are committed and work hard will be afforded more play time than those who don't. If an athlete misses two practices during the week they will not play the following Saturday but are expected to be on the sideline in their jersey to support their team.

WHEN AND WHERE DO YOU PRACTICE?
Practice starts on the second week of August (check the calendar for the exact date) with 10 hours of conditioning for tackle players that are mandated by the Association prior to contact.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I REGISTER?
You will be added to our mailing list and we will contact you via email with upcoming events. Our calendar also lists upcoming events and this is a good tool to use as well.

WHAT OTHER PAPER WORK DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?
You will be required to provide a Physical on the TVYFL Medical release form; the following forms will be provided for signature when being fitted for equipment: Completed Registration Form, Parents Contract, Players Contract and Equipment Contract. All paperwork is required to be turned in prior to starting practice.

IS PRACTICE CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER?
No. Practice is almost never canceled due to weather. We will practice in the rain, cold, heat, or snow, as long as it's safe for our players.

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BRING TO PRACTICE?
For the conditioning period they should wear shorts, a t-shirt, cleats, and their helmet. Once they have satisfied the conditioning requirement, we will wear the full practice uniform every practice. This consists of helmet with mouth guard, shoulder pads, practice jersey, pants with all pads, and cleats. All game day equipment, pants and jersey will be provided. Finally, every player should bring PLENTY of water to each practice. We CANNOT over-emphasize the importance of this. We recommend at LEAST 1/2 gallon or more. This will be especially important on hot days.

HOW SHOULD MY CHILD PREPARE FOR PRACTICE?
Drinking plenty of water prior to practice is key, especially in warm weather. We do not recommend that they eat heavily before practice. It's also a good idea to skip sugary drinks or soda on practice days. Once school starts, it's a good idea to make your child responsible for their gear and to set it out the night before they go to sleep. We see players show up at practice missing gear all the time. If they aren't fully dressed, they can't practice and this is detrimental to the team. The most commonly forgotten items are mouth guards.

HOW LONG IS A GAME?
Typically, you can expect your player to be at the field for 3 hours. We require players to show up 1 hour before game time, and most games take 2 hours to play.

ARE GAMES CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER?
As with practice, we do not cancel games for weather unless there is a significant safety risk. We play in rain, snow, heat, and cold.

ARE THERE COVERED SEATING AREAS AT ALL FIELDS?
Hare Field has covered seating but not all away games will have shelter. Ask your coaching staff if you have questions.

WHAT IS THE TVYFL?
